Green C

Landscape areas: The diversity of our region

Facts

  • Nine landscape areas form the Green C
  • Left bank of the Rhine: Mainly agricultural use
  • Right bank of the Rhine: Mainly meadow and floodplain landscapes

The Green C preserves the individuality of the nine different landscape areas and creates a park of cultural landscapes by connecting them.

The Green C can be divided into nine very different and special landscape areas:

The four landscape areas on the left bank of the Rhine have been shaped by agriculture for centuries due to their valuable arable soils:

  • the Meßdorf field,
  • the garden land,
  • the foothills and
  • the gravel landscape.

The four areas on the right bank of the Rhine are much more characterized by meadow and floodplain landscapes:

  • the Siegaue,
  • the Hangelarer Heide,
  • the Birlinghover Forest and
  • the Pleisbach valley.

The ninth area - located in the center - is the Rhine with its immediately adjacent floodplain areas.
