Facts
- Garden in Sankt Augustin
- Intercultural meeting place
- Area for the exchange of gardening knowledge
When immigrants and long-established residents garden together, they also learn about each other's "roots" in a very practical way. Not only do flowers and vegetables thrive, but mutual understanding also grows.
The "Gardens of Nations" are intended to
different origins and cultures
and cultures, facilitate encounters and
and thus promote integration.
Prejudices, stereotypes and fears of contact with strangers are naturally broken down while working together.
The project was created at the bottleneck between the districts of Menden and Mülldorf. Here, farmland was transformed into an intercultural garden. Communal areas invite people to exchange experiences and talk. There is also the opportunity to pass on new and old "gardening knowledge" on "learning plots". The site differs from the classic allotment garden site due to its open structures; the focus is on gardening.
Construction began in October 2012 and the gardens were handed over to the users, the Gardens of Nations association, in September 2013.
